Support a student, buy a T-shirt

Student Services is selling a few BE FIRST BU Family T-shirts of various sizes.

By purchasing a shirt, you are helping support any Brenau student that may have a sudden challenge during their time at Brenau. Funds will go directly into the Student Services Opportunity Grant, which has helped students continue their educational journey towards graduation.

T-shirts are $10 and are only available for purchase Sept. 3-6 in Owens Student Center. Sizes range from M to 2XL.

BE FIRST. BU, first-generation student meeting July 19

Brenau will host the first BE FIRST. BU event for first-generation students this Thursday, July 19, at 1 p.m. in the Brenau Trustee Library, where we will welcome 21 of our incoming students and their families to campus. These incoming students are the first in their families to attend college, and we’re excited that they’ve chosen Brenau.

Through the Be First. BU program these students will have the opportunity to connect through various events, including a painting party, a ghost tour of Pearce and staying overnight in the new dorms. Dr. Jim Eck and Dr. Amanda Lammers will welcome the students and their families, and Dr. Crystal Toombs will highlight all of the support services offered to help them succeed at Brenau.

First-generation faculty and staff have been given T-shirts that will be distributed early this week. If you requested one, be sure to wear it on Thursday and welcome your fellow first generation students!

BE FIRST. BU July 19-20

Brenau Student Services will host its first ever First Generation Student event July 19-20 marketed as BE FIRST. BU.

This includes inviting our first generation students enrolling in the day program to attend Brenau for an overnight stay so they can connect and learn more about life at Brenau and its campus. A first generation student is defined as a student where neither parent/guardian holds a bachelor’s degree.

If you are a staff member or faculty member that is a first generation student, please contact Jessica Bowling so you can receive a first generation t-shirt. We ask that you wear your shirt on Thursday, July 19. Students will have different activities throughout the day as well as visit various departments on campus. We want them to be inspired by our very own Brenau family that are first gen!

What Quote Inspires You?

If you look around campus, you can often see quotes posted that inspire students, faculty and staff to press on no matter what challenges they may be facing.

In student services, we encourage students to be inspired and to gain strength from what speaks to them. In the Office of Student Success, a wall has been designated as the “quote wall.” Jessica Bowling invites faculty and staff to share their favorite quote so it can be added to the wall. Her goal is to cover the entire office with quotes.

Please help her by sending your favorite quote through campus mail and make sure your name is on it. Every student who visits the office can be inspired by the “Sea of Quotes” from the very people who encourage them daily.
