Save The Date: Fall Prevention Expo Friday, Sept. 13

Among older Americans, falls are the No. 1 cause of injury and death from injury. The risk of injury from falls increase with age, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. One in four people 65 and older report falling in the previous year, yet less than half of those talked to a health care provider about falls. Many falls are preventable with some simple steps such as talking to your doctor and keeping your body strong and active.

To respond to the growing issue, the Northeast Georgia Fall Prevention Coalition is hosting the third annual Fall Prevention Expo. This year’s expo is being brought to you by Brenau University Ivester College of Health Sciences, Legacy Link Area Agency on Aging and Trauma & Acute Care Surgery of Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Anyone interested in learning more about preventing and managing falls are invited to attend on Friday, Sept. 13, at the Gainesville Civic Center located at 830 Green St. NE.

Doors open at 8:30 a.m. for registration and a light breakfast and the program begins at 9 a.m. Join us for education and discussion about preventing falls. Also included will be free screenings, demonstrations, home safety tips, community resources, giveaways and more! You must register to attend and space is limited. This event is free.
