Brenau Celebrates Constitution Day with Voter Registration

In celebration of National Constitution Day, which fell on Sunday, Sept. 17, Brenau Student Government Association held a voter registration drive Monday in Yonah Lobby.

“We are given the right to be able to vote, and I think everyone should exercise that right,” said Amari Banks, senior health sciences major and SGA parliamentarian. “It’s really important for us today particularly because we had a big freshman class just come in, and they’re all between the ages of about 17-19. So a lot of them probably have not registered to vote yet. It’s good for us to catch them now, and it’s convenient for them to be able to register here at school.”

The drive was open to the public and made possible by federal funding. As Sunday marked the 230th anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention, Brenau President Ed Schrader also signed a proclamation declaring the entire week Constitution Week 2017.
