Reminder: High Museum Internship Application Deadline March 23

Information on summer internships at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta is now available at high.org/teens-and-college/summer-internships. Brenau University is given one summer internship spot as a part of our Affiliate Agreement.

Please note the deadline for submitting an application is Friday, March 23.

Some other important things to note:

Brenau is guaranteed one summer internship spot. All students are welcome to apply, and additional Brenau students past the one selected may still be considered within the general application pool.

Students should fill out a separate application for each department they are interested in, and Nichole Rawlings recommends selecting their top two or three departments. Students should tailor their personal statement to each department in the respective application.

This year, each intern will receive a stipend of $500 to help with parking, transportation, etc.

The opportunity is open to rising juniors and seniors and graduating seniors.

Students must have a resume, personal statement and one letter of recommendation. The letter must be emailed directly from the writer to High staff (indicated on the application page).

Brenau University Galleries is hosting a reception for the art exhibition Masterworks on the Move in The Sellars Gallery of the Simmons Visual Arts Center Thursday, Jan. 16 from 5:30-7 p.m. Masterworks on the Move is a traveling exhibition of works from the Helena Eastman Ogden Campbell Collection at Wesleyan College.

This unique event combines American art and music from the turn of the century to 1960 with all-American cuisine. Dr. Barbara Steinhaus, chair of the Music Department and professor of music at Brenau, will perform several musical numbers from notable American composers such as Charles Ives, Amy Marcy Cheney Beach and Irving Berlin to the accompaniment of Ben Leaptrott on the piano.

Artworks include 25 American masterpieces from artists such as Emma Fordyce McRae, Gustave Wiegand and Jane Peterson. The reception is free and open to the public. For more information call Brenau University Galleries at 770-534-6263.

Juried Student Design Exhibition Opening Gallery Reception Thursday, Nov. 14

The Simmons Visual Arts Center’s Presidents Gallery hosts the fourth annual Juried Student Design Exhibition reception, Thursday, Nov. 14, from 5:30-7 p.m. The exhibition showcases the work of Brenau University Art and Design students. Design-based works in the areas of graphic design, interior design and fashion design will be shown.

Sapelo Island Closing Reception and Artist Talk, Saturday, Nov. 2

The Simmons Visual Arts Center is hosting a closing reception for the Sapelo Sojourn exhibit Saturday, Nov. 2 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the Presidents Gallery. The exhibition explores the environmental issues surrounding Sapelo Island, a protected barrier island off the coast of Georgia, where artists Jeannine Cook and Marjett Schille studied under special permission from The Nature Conservancy.

Honors Il Portale Concert

Please join the Brenau University Music Department next Monday, Oct. 14, as a juried group of music majors present vocal and piano literature in this semester’s Honors Il Portale Musicale. The performance features music that spans genres through various periods from the Baroque to the Romantic.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Pearce Auditorium and is free and open to the public.

What is Chorus…REALLY?

What is Chorus…REALLY?, an interactive event designed to engage high school singers in learning about the evolution of choral music, takes place Saturday, Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hosch Theatre. Tickets to this general admission show are $2. 

The program consists of over 125 chorus students from East Hall, Flowery Branch, Gainesville, North Hall and Madison County high schools singing a variety of pieces, from early music to present day, along side faculty and students from the Brenau University Department of Music.

Please join us for what is sure to be a fun evening.

An Evening of Four Handed Piano by the Jefcoats

Brenau University Associate Professor of Music Priscilla Jefcoat will perform a four-hand piano faculty recital with her husband, Keith, Thursday, Aug. 29. at 7:30. p.m. in Pearce Auditorium. The performance includes works by Mozart, Schubert, and Brahms played on the Wayne Dempsey Steinway piano and is free and open to the public.
