Brenau Fitness Center is happy to announce two new strength and conditioning classes led by Gary Hatfield, Fitness Center Director and Brenau Athletics Strength Coach, and Jack Haire, Assistant Swim Coach and former owner of Northeast Georgia Crossfit. Combined, the two have over 50 years of experience in strength training and conditioning.
Classes began this week and meet in the second floor elevator lobby of the Fitness Center. Both classes are available at no cost. The Brenau Fitness has locker rooms and showers for your use.
The first class, for both beginner and intermediate levels, is called Functional Strength Training. This class will be led by Hatfield and will be adapted to your level of experience. The goal of the beginner level is to familiarize you with strength techniques that combat age-related loss of muscle and strength, while the intermediate level will incorporate increased intensity levels and more advanced lifting techniques and exercises. Both levels of this course will focus on activity/sports improvement such as being able to play tennis longer or being able to play golf without fatigue related declines, as well as how to incorporate exercise to help maintain and/or reshape body composition. This class meets from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The second class for more advanced lifters is called Functional Fitness Training and will be led by Haire. The goal of this class is to use high-intensity lifting techniques while incorporating cardiovascular training to improve both strength and cardiovascular conditioning for higher quality physical activity. Much of this class will be in a group format while making adjustments to meet each individual’s needs. This class meets from noon to 1 p.m. Mondays and Fridays.
Sign up is available in the first floor lobby and at the Welcome Desk and is limited to 12 participants per class. Participants will earn 1 wellness point per class. For more information, contact Hatfield at 678-617-5051 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
