Brenau University students in Intro to Arts in Health recently participated in the Young Leaders Visualize Health Equity Art Project sponsored by the National Academy of Medicine.
In class, they shared presentations about social determinants and the elements that affect health equity. Then, on Wednesday, Jan. 30, they either painted their own visions of what the world might look like when everyone has the same chance to be healthy, safe, and happy, or they painted how the social determinants of health shape their own lives.
The painting session was led by community artist Haley Jordan. Each painting is accompanied by an artist statement and then uploaded to the national website. The project gave these students the opportunity to wrestle with new ideas concerning what it takes to stay safe and healthy.
