Participate in Brenau Hunger Awareness Week Events

The Staff Development Committee is hosting a number of events this week in partnership with the Georgia Mountain Food Bank and in recognition of Hunger Awareness Week.

A competitive food drive for small or large groups is taking place all week. Sign up your group by Tuesday, March 6, on the Google Sheets document located at docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1M1oklZr0QiBhQod4CF5RRGssbabYhxIOyvKItzFeIf8/edit?usp=sharing, or email kpeters1@brenau.edu with your team’s information. Let’s see who can collect the most food for the Georgia Mountain Food Bank!

The week will kick off with a talk by Kay Blackstock, executive director of the Georgia Mountain Food Bank, at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, in Thurmond McRae, followed by a screening of the documentary “Hunger in America” at 6:30 p.m.

From 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, and from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 8, opportunities will be available to paint “empty bowls” for the Empty Bowl Luncheon, an annual fundraiser benefiting the food bank. The cost is $8 per bowl, which will feed up to 100 people.

Finally, from 1-3 p.m. Friday, March 9, Brenau will hold a Community Service Event at the Georgia Mountain Food Bank, and all faculty, staff and students are encouraged to participate.

Sign up by Wednesday, March 7, for this volunteer opportunity at www.volgistics.com/ex/portal.dll/ap?ap=386706330. List “Brenau University” as the group name.

The Staff Development Committee thanks you for your support of these important events during our Hunger Awareness Week! Please email Kelly Peters at kpeters1@brenau.edu if you have questions about any of these events.
