The Brenau basketball team kicked off the 2017-18 season with a 73-45 victory over Voorhees (South Carolina) College on Tuesday in Gainesville.
The game was highlighted by senior guard Autumn Dodson’s career-high 32-point performance, which helped her eclipse the 1,000-point mark for her career. The Golden Tigers shot 59 percent in the second half for their first win of the season.
“Autumn had a really great performance tonight,” said head coach Kris Stewart. “She works so hard to improve her game and it showed tonight. Her induction into the 1,000 point club is well-deserved.”
Dodson shot a blistering 13-25 (52 percent) from the field, including 6-14 (43 percent) from three-point range to become only the eighth Golden Tiger to join the 1,000-point club. She joins former standouts Brittany Wiley (2010-2014), Ashley Hagans (2008-10), Paige Cooper (2006-10), Sarah Ledford (2006-10), Vicky Wilson (2006-10), Nikki Reed (2009-13) and Kalin Williams (2013-16) as the only Golden Tigers to achieve this mark.
Brenau (2-1 overall) next hosts Truett-McConnell College at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
