The 26th annual Great Grown-Up Spelling Bee will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, in the Hosch Theatre in the John S. Burd Center for the Performing Arts.
Brenau’s team is joined by teams from First Baptist Church, Gainesville First United Methodist Church, Rotary Club of Gainesville, Grace Episcopal Church, Hall County Library, Lanier Technical College and The Times for the competition this year.
Our own Gay Hammond will continue to act as the event’s longtime “wordsmith” or emcee. This year, she will be presented the Certified Literate Community Honor Roll award for her many years of supporting adult and family literacy programs.
New this year is “Buzz before the Bee.” Teams and spectators can mingle and partake of beer and wine provided by Tap It from 5:30-7 p.m. in the lobby of Hosch Theatre.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Proceeds benefit the Gainesville-Hall County Alliance for Literacy.
