The City of Gainesville will begin replacing water lines on Main Street at the intersection of Jesse Jewell Parkway on Monday, April 17, in advance of a street-scaping project that will run from Jesse Jewell to College Avenue. The project will include boring under Jesse Jewell at the north side and south side of Main Street. During the boring, Main Street will be closed on either side of Jesse Jewell Parkway up to three weeks. Detours will be provided on several nearby streets.
The water line replacement includes replacing 100 year old cast iron lines. Once the boring is completed under Jesse Jewell, the north side of Main Street toward the Downtown Square will be re-opened. The south side of Main Street, between CVS and Slack Auto Parts, will remain closed to complete the water line replacement and a portion of the street-scaping.
Motorists will need to proceed with caution as the street-scaping project continues. Street-scaping will include the installation of new and wider sidewalks, landscaping and ornamental lighting and will eventually connect to the Midtown Greenway and pedestrian bridge.
