Philip A. Wilheit Sr., vice chair of the Brenau University Board of Trustees and Gainesville business leader, will receive a top award from Leadership Georgia this week.
Wilheit, president of Wilheit Packaging and Marketing Images, will be honored with the J.W. Fanning Award. Fanning was instrumental in developing Leadership Georgia, which is an affiliate of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce.
Wilheit served more than 40 years on the board of the Greater Hall County Chamber of Commerce with one year as chairman, and more than 20 years on the Georgia Chamber of Commerce with one year as chairman there as well. Currently, he is a member of the Georgia Chamber Transportation Commission and the Georgia Chamber Advisory Committee on School Board Governance. He also serves on the Georgia Department of Economic Development Commission and the Commission for a New Georgia.
Wilheit was a member of the State Board of Education from 1996-1999. He was treasurer for Congressman Nathan Deal for 28 years and served as the Statewide Chairman of the Deal for Governor campaign. He has served on the Brenau board for 26 years.
The award will be presented Friday, Nov. 4, at Leadership Georgia’s seventh annual gala at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta.
