Eight Brenau student-athletes competed at the 2016 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 26-28 in Gulf Shores, Alabama, with two seniors earning All-American honors.
Olamide Sokunbi of Marietta, Georgia, made Brenau history by finishing second in the triple jump. She earned a second All-American recognition after finishing fifth in the 100-meter dash.
Deishane Honeycutt of Stone Mountain, Georgia, put in another All-American performance, finishing sixth in the 400 meters.
With 15 points – the most in the four-year history of the program – Brenau’s outdoor track and field team finished ahead of all other SSAC teams and placed 24th overall.
Coach Byron Kramer said the Golden Tigers’ impressive showing in Gulf Shores bodes well for the future of the program, which has already won four consecutive conference championships. “It’s a good first step toward real national prominence,” he said.
