The Southern States Athletic Conference earlier this week announced two Brenau student-athletes have been selected as conference athletes of the week for April 18-24.
Deishane’ Honeycutt, a senior biology major from Stone Mountain, Georgia, was named SSAC Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, and Aubrey Fearnow, a junior middle grades education major from Arnoldsville, Georgia, was named SSAC Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Both student-athletes turned in impressive performances at last week’s SSAC Women’s Track & Field Championships in Mobile, Alabama, where the Golden Tigers claimed their fourth consecutive conference crown.
Honeycutt placed first in the 400 meters and 400 meter hurdles competitions and was an instrumental part of Brenau’s victory in the 4 X 400 and 4 X 800 team relays, while Fearnow finished first in the hammer throw and shot put, came in second in the javelin toss and placed third in the discus.
Brenau finished the conference championship 138 points ahead of second-place Loyola (La.) University. Combined, the individual performances of Honeycutt and Fearnow produced 63.5 of the Golden Tigers’ cumulative 249 points.
