Brenau Becomes ‘Pan Am Village’ May 16-23

About 250 athletes from North, Central and South America will move into Brenau housing this May.

Kayakers and canoers will live on the historic Gainesville campus from May 16-23 for the 2016 Lake Lanier Pan Am Championships, the last qualifying event ahead of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Lake Lanier Olympic Parks hosts official competition May 19-22.

Hourly Lake Lanier shuttles will operate out of Academy Street, next to the Tea Room. More information will be announced regarding the impact on campus parking.

In addition to providing living quarters, food services, and access to the gymnasium, the university will host the Championships’ Opening Ceremony in Pearce Auditorium on Wednesday, May 18, at 6 p.m.

All Brenau employees are asked to wear their name badges while the athletes are on campus and to assist our guests with any questions they may have.

Portuguese or Spanish speakers are needed, especially the first two days our guest are on campus. Please contact Danielle Miller at ddifede@brenau.edu if you would like to volunteer or have any questions about the event.
