The Brenau University Department of Dance’s spring concert Transcend is April 8-10. The event features choreography from faculty members Madia Cooper-Ashirifi, Diane Callahan and Jolie Long, with presentations by guest artists Vincas Greene and Kristy Nilsson.
Five DA 420-Choreography & Production senior thesis students will present both a group and solo piece. Brenau students showcasing their works are Patrick Condon of Jupiter, Florida; Brittany Daniel of Americus Georgia; Paris Hawkins of Lawrenceville, Georgia; Rachel Lange of Alpharetta, Georgia; and Shanik Moore of Loganville, Georgia.
“Some things are difficult to put into spoken word,” said Jolie Long, who opens Transcend with a full-movement piece titled Rose of Sharon. “Some of us find it easier to express our feelings through dance. It touches close to the human condition – grief or great joy is tied into our body language.”
The concert consists of two rotating programs. Program A performances are scheduled April 8 at 7:30 p.m. and April 9 at 2 p.m. Program B performances are scheduled April 9 at 7:30 p.m. and April 10 at 2 p.m.
