The Southern States Athletics Conference has bestowed athlete-of-the-week accolades to two Brenau students.
Patricia Recalde Pacua, a sophomore interior design major from Asuncion, Paraguay, was named Women’s Tennis Player of the Week. The SSAC awarded Recalde the recognition following the No. 6 nationally ranked Golden Tigers’ 3-0 run March 14-20. During the time frame, Recalde notched up three singles victories and three doubles victories alongside teammate Kirsten Dickins.
Olamide Sokunbi, a senior fashion design major from Marietta, Georgia, was selected the SSAC Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week. She finished first in the 100 meter dash at the Emory Invitational in Atlanta March 18-19. Her final time of 11.80 is the fastest recorded by any SSAC runner this season; the performance earned Sokunbi an “A” qualifying mark from the National Association of Intercollegiate Association, which now allows her to participate in the 2016 national championships this May in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
