The 2016 Miss Brenau Ideal Scholarship competition took place at a banquet awards ceremony Feb. 5 at the Brenau University Downtown Center. Candidates were scored in three categories: original essay, original oratory presentation and community service display. The winner with the highest score in each category was awarded a $1,000 scholarship for the next academic year. The winner with the highest combined score from all three categories was awarded a $3,000 scholarship and named 2016’s Miss Brenau Ideal.
The winners were Autumn Dodson (Best Essay and Miss Brenau Ideal 2016), an early childhood education sophomore from Warner Robins, Georgia; Husnia Aziz (Best Oratory Presentation), an accounting junior from Chilstoon, Kabul, Afghanistan; and Rebecca Jarrett (Best Community Service Display), an English and pre-physical therapy junior from Dacula, Georgia.
The other candidates were: Shanik Moore, Amanda Buchanan, Ambriah Griggs, Allie McConnell, Karen Sanchez, Devin Smith, Bridgett Tiller and Nichole Vernon.
The Miss Brenau Ideal criteria includes being a full-time student (12 or more credit hours) in the Women’s College, having at least a 2.5 GPA, being a student in good standing, being an active member of the Brenau community and being mindful of the Honor Code when writing the required essay for the scholarship.
