Amy O’Dell, who graduated from Brenau University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Fine Arts in Interior Design, has been named Lanier Technical College’s 2016 recipient of the Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Instruction.

O’Dell, who joined Lanier Technical College in 2012, now serves as its interiors program chair and lead instructor, as well as its division chair for professional and public services.

Each of the 24 schools in the Technical College System of Georgia select one instructor to receive the annual accolade. O’Dell will now go on to a regional competition in March. Eventually, the field is narrowed down to just three award winners, who will compete for the state prize at April’s Spring TCSG Leadership Conference.

She hasn’t forgotten about her Golden Tigers roots, either. Lynn Jones, chair of Brenau’s interior design program, said O’Dell continues to work alongside her to foster the transfer of Lanier Tech students to Brenau’s evening and weekend classes.
