More than 20 Fairburn campus students and faculty members gathered for a mixer at Los Mariachis Mexican Restaurant, a popular South Atlanta hangout spot, on Sept. 18.

With about 100 students, campus director Russell Willis said the South Atlanta campus is very close knit. The event, which gave professors and pupils an opportunity to learn more about each other, proved a big hit with students and faculty alike.

“The social event was filled with food, drinks, music, door prizes and quite a bit of laughter, as well,” Willis said. “The students have responded very well, saying we need to do it more often.”

While there are no plans for a follow-up mixer just yet, Willis said the Fairburn campus is offering opportunities for staff and students to mingle virtually through an ongoing video conference series. Having offered Zoom webinars on financial planning and career services earlier in the semester, he said the next online conference, focusing on financial aid, is set for November.
