Child sexual abuse is one of the most horrific crimes imaginable, yet many adults do not know how to recognize or respond to signs of maltreatment. Brenau staff, faculty and students have opportunities to learn more about child abuse detection, prevention and reporting at an upcoming Stewards of Children seminar, scheduled Thursday, Oct. 15 from noon to 2 p.m.
The free training program will be held at the Edmondson-Telford Center for Children, 603 Washington St. in Gainesville.
Brenau University Department of Psychology Chair Dr. Julie Battle has provided services for child abuse victims at the center for 15 years. Battle, a trained Stewards of Children facilitator, said the two-hour Darkness to Light session is worthwhile to anyone with an interest in child safety and well-being.
“It definitely would be good for all education majors, all health science majors and anyone who has any contact with children,” she said.
Additional training seminars are scheduled Monday, Nov. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday. Jan. 20 from 10 a.m. to noon at the center. To register for a session, please contact Sandra Reed at firstname.lastname@example.org or (770) 534-5151.
