Award-winning choreographer Kristy Nilsson, who has been commissioned to work alongside Brenau dancers for the 2016 spring faculty concert, has selected eight students to participate in the big performance.
Those hand-picked by the accomplished choreographer are junior Melinda Cassiday; senior Patrick Condon; sophomore Annie Fox; junior Paris Hawkins; junior Rachel Lange; freshman Kelsey Lyle; junior Shanik Moore; and sophomore Sara Sharples.
Nilsson, who has helped choreograph more than 100 concert works performed by 25 companies in the United States and Canada, will return this weekend for more rehearsals. She praised Brenau’s elite eight, describing them as engaged and fearless, with an intellectual and physical approach to the art form.
“As they come from very diverse backgrounds, the dancers each have a unique quality and honesty in their movement style which has been exciting to build on,” she said. “It is a close knit group, and the dancers intuitively understand one another’s movement personality, which makes their collaborative creative input uniquely effective in crafting a new piece of choreography.”
The spring faculty concert is scheduled April 8-10 at the John S. Burd Center for the Performing Arts in the Hosch Theatre.
