With a new academic year underway, Campus Security Director Paula Dampier wants to remind staff and faculty of some key fire safety practices.
All employees should be familiar with the locations of fire alarms and fire extinguishers in their work spaces. If an alarm sounds, immediately head to your building’s evacuation location. A list of sites for the Gainesville historic campus is available at http://intranet.brenau.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/11/2015/07/Evac.pdf.
It is not safe to re-enter a building until the alarm has been silenced by facilities and/or security personnel or a fire department official. Should the alarm reactivate following an all-clear signal, you must evacuate the building once more until officials can determine the cause. Even if there are no visible signs of a fire, it is important to treat all fire alarms as if they are a true emergency situation.
