An online fundraising campaign has been established to assist the family of 2011 Brenau grad Samantha Carson, who is not expected to survive the brain damage and stroke she suffered in early August.
Carson, a biology major who was involved in Brenau’s highly successful undergraduate endangered plants program, suffered a massive stroke resulting from subacute bacterial endocarditis, an infection of the inner lining of the heart. She currently is in hospice care following her Aug. 8 hospitalization.
Biology professor Jessi Barker Shrout recalled Carson as a kind and quiet student who always had a smile on her face. “I was lucky to work with her on an undergraduate research project during her time at Brenau, to which she always brought such joy and care for others,” Shrout said.
Carson, a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, had been working as a lab assistant at Castle Medical in Smyrna, Georgia.
The GoFundMe campaign during its first two days raised more than $2,000 to help Carson’s family with medical expenses. Visit http://www.gofundme.com/alphagams4sam to make a contribution.
