Brenau’s Swimming Team Named Scholar All-Americans

There is no denying Brenau’s Golden tigers swimmers are talented athletes since the team finished third in the nation at the 2015 NAIA Championships. However, the group continue to set the bar in national rankings for academic achievements as well.

The College Swimming Coaches Association of America announced  this summer that the swimming team achieved Scholar All-American status for the spring 2015 semester. With a stellar 3.51 GPA, Brenau’s swimmers posted not only the third-highest cumulative grade of any college or university in Georgia, but also the third highest cumulative grade of any swimming team in the nation among National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics member teams.

To qualify for the scholar All-American recognition, swimming and diving teams must accumulate combined grade point averages exceeding 3.0 on the 4.0 academic scale. The spring recognition follows the coaches group’s proclaiming the Tigers the top scholar team in the nation among NAIA colleges, universities and junior colleges for the fall term with a team GPA of 3.52.

Brenau Athletics Director Mike Lochstampfor said the scholastic honor means just as much to him as the team’s achievements in swimming competitions.

“I feel tremendously proud of their national ranking from a swimming perspective,” he said. “That they are equally, if not even more capable in the classroom, speaks volumes to our team.”
