Over forty junior nursing students collaborated with Northeast Georgia Medical Center at the Gainesville and Brasleton facilities in a regional emergency preparedness event June 2. The event simulated community residents injured by a large tornado. Participating as casualties, the nursing students were assigned specific injuries and roles to challenge public safety agencies and the medical centers with a victim surge.
The unique opportunity provided nursing students with a regional collaborative perspective to protect our community and residents. Students dressed in make-up depicting their roles learned first-hand about medical professional roles. Special thanks to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for including Brenau University nursing students in their community exercise.
