This year at the Brenau Ideal Scholarship Competition, formerly known as the Miss Brenau Scholarship Competition, 10 freshmen and sophomores competed for scholarships in the areas of performance, public speaking and writing. While the oratory and essay portions of the competition were scored by Brenau faculty and staff judges, the talent component was judged at Pearce Auditorium on Thursday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m.
Sophomore Bethany Green received the top scores in the oratory and talent areas, which included her flute performance of “Under the Sea,” and she was awarded a $1000 scholarship to be applied next academic year. The highest scorer in the written essay area of the competition was freshman Melani Stein. The other contestants were: Amanda Buchanan, Sammi Elias, Ambriah Griggs, Sara Hubaishi, Shakinah McNeil, Karen Sanchez, Lisa Slysz, and Bridgett Tiller.
