GTA’s February Festival of Theatre presents ‘In the Heights’, ‘Antigone’

Throughout the month of February the nationally acclaimed collaboration of the University of North Georgia, Brenau University, theater professionals and the North Georgia community, The Gainesville Theatre Alliance, presents their February Festival of Theatre featuring “In The Heights” and “Antigone.”

The 2008 Tony Award winner for Best Musical, “InThe Heights,”  tells the story of modern day immigrants and features a contemporary score performed by a live orchestra. It runs Feb. 10-21 at Brenau’s  John S. Burd Center for the Performing Arts Hosch Theatre, 429 Academy St., Gainesville. Patrons can get a peek behind-the-scenes with the free stage tour on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 6 p.m.

“Antigone”  is an ancient Greek tragedy, told in classic verse but layered with modern dance movement that drives home its timeless and tragic story. It runs Feb. 13-21 be in the University of North Georgia’s Ed Cabell Theatre in the Continuing Education/Performing Arts Building, 3820 Mundy Mill Road, Oakwood. Experience the stage tour stage tour on Thursday, Jan. 29, 6 p.m.
