Carl Flink, the artistic director of Minneapolis-based Black Label Movement, is in Gainesville this week by the Departments of Dance and Theatre, along with BLM company member and teacher Natalie Carr, as a special guest artist. Flink is teaching classes, setting a piece for the Department of Dance’s concert in April and setting movement for the Gainesville Theatre Alliance’s February production of “Antigone.”
His choreography is recognized and embraced for its intense athleticism, daring risk-taking and humanistic themes that often address diverse social, scientific, political and working class subjects in addition to more abstract dance approaches. Flink has also choreographed TED talks: http://www.ted.com/talks/john_bohannon_dance_vs_powerpoint_a_modest_proposal?language=en
