The Gainesville Theatre Alliance presents the American classic credited as “the first musical play,” OKLAHOMA! Nov. 4-15. The production, which includes a host of celebrated Rogers & Hammerstein show tunes, will be in Brenau University’s Hosch Theatre at the John S. Burd Center, 429 Academy St., Gainesville. A free reception in the lobby, catered by LUNA’s, will follow the opening night performance on Nov. 4. The cast features Brenau theater major Devyn White, as the female lead, Laurey, in the show. Brenau’s Meredith Martin performs as the Dream Laurey (in the dream ballet sequence); Heidi Rider is playing Ado Annie, Brenau alumnus Allen Story is Sheriff Carnes and Chelsea Brown is Gertie. The dance ensemble includes Brenau students Shanteria Stokes, Janeley Rodriguez, Anna Vera Styron, Emily Topper (Dance Captain), and Molley Wiley is a part of the vocal ensemble.
The Gainesville Theatre Alliance is a nationally acclaimed collaboration of the Brenau University, the University of North Georgia and theatre professionals and the North Georgia community. Discounted tickets to the preview performance on Monday, Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m. are available for $10. Audio transcription for patrons with a visual impairment will available be on Saturday, Nov. 15 at the 2:30 p.m. show.
