New Tiger in Town: Updated Golden Tiger Logo Scores First Points on Campus

There’s a new tiger in town. And it is ready for you to use.

On the heels of installation of the iconic Golden Tiger sculpture on the Gainesville campus, Brenau University Department of Athletics has upgraded and modernized its logo for use by all athletics teams. And the really good news is that the new logo – as well as an interlocking BU emblem – is also available for use throughout the university community.

The new Brenau trademarks were the creation of Georgia designer Tom Sapp, who after producing one of the most popular depictions of the University of Georgia Hairy Dog mascot, followed suit with dozens of other characters. Sapp’s work includes Pounce of Georgia State, Sparty for Michigan State University, Sluggrrrr of the Kansas City Royals, the FireHawk of Firestone Racing Tires, YouDee, the Blue Hen, for the University of Delaware, as well as characters representing mascots of the Denver Nuggets, the Nashville Predators and the Dallas Mavericks.

“We’ve got first-class intercollegiate teams and now we have first-class graphics to go along with them,” said Athletics Director Mike Lochstampfor.

The new Golden Tiger designs were part of a coordinated campaign to bring all of Brenau’s graphical image a level of consistency and compatibility. For example, for the first time the university materials use the same black and gold from the Pantone color charts.

Ahead of a public roll-out of the emblem in November when the first Golden Tiger merchandise hits the shelves, you can already see evidence of its use around campus. For example, workers on the Gainesville campus installed a bus shelter poster showing one version of the logo. You will see it on the athletics web site, on some publicity materials for upcoming events and in a variety of electronic formats. Various departments around campus are using it on t-shirts and other materials produced for specific events.
