Jordan Wallace, graduating senior majoring in biology, and her bluegrass band The Sawnee Mountain Train Wreck will perform at the Tea Room on Monday, April 14, at 6:30 p.m. Bring a new or gently used children’s book for ages 5-10 to be a part of a prize drawing. The Bluegrass and Books event will help aid the book drive initiated by the Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies to benefit the youth in the summer RISE program.
Now through April 17, look for book drive donation bins on the Gainesville campus in the Trustee Library, Tea Room, Yonah Dining Hall, Jacobs Building, Child Development Center and Brenau East.
RISE was created by a group of Brenau University students partnering with the Gainesville Housing Authority and the Georgia Food Bank, to help children retain knowledge during their summer vacation. In 2012, the program had 17 students enrolled and in 2013, 40 students took advantage of the summer camp. Read more about RISE here: http://www.brenau.edu/news/rise-graduation/
