Book Drive to Benefit Summer RISE Program

Book drive flyer The honor societies Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Kappa Phi have teamed up to host a book drive to benefit the youth of the summer RISE program. Drop off a new or gently used children’s book for ages 5-10 in one of the donation bins between now through April 17. Look for bins at the Gainesville campus in the Trustee Library, Tea Room, Brenau East, Yonah Dining Hall, Jacobs Building and Child Development Center.

Jordan Wallace and her bluegrass band The Sawnee Mountain Train Wreck will perform at the Tea Room on April 14 at 6:30 p.m. Bring a book to the event to be a part of a prize drawing.

RISE was created by a group of Brenau University students partnering with the Gainesville Housing Authority and the Georgia Food Bank, to help children retain knowledge during their summer vacation. In 2012, the program had 17 students enrolled and in 2013, 40 students took advantage of the summer camp. Read more about RISE here:
