Edwin Grady Vaughn, age 92, beloved grandfather of Assistant Professor of Nursing Brittany Smith, passed away Tuesday, April 1 at Cottingham Hospice, Seneca, S.C. Mr. Vaughn was the son of the late Jesse and Vera Cook Vaughn. He was born February 6, 1922 in Athens, Ga., having lived in Toccoa, Ga., since 1960. He was a decorated World War II Veteran of the U.S. Navy having served on four aircraft carriers and retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service. He was recognized by the State of Georgia and the Currahee Military Museum for his military service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma Vaughn in 2012.
Funeral services will be Friday, April 4, at 11 a.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in Toccoa with the Reverend Jerrell Beatty officiating. The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Interment will be in the Stephens Memorial Gardens with Military Honors by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
