Brenau’s radio station, 89.1 WBCX-FM, will broadcast live the Feb. 22 debate from Gainesville, Ga., of candidates seeking the Republican nomination in the 2014 U.S. Senate election. If you are outside of the station’s 1,900-square-mile listening area in northeast Georgia, you can listen to the streaming broadcast online at the WBCX Listen Live link: http://www.publicbroadcasting.net/wbcx/ppr/index.shtml.
This is the third of seven debates the state Republican party scheduled around the state leading up to the May primary. The winner will face the Democratic nominee in the November election to replace retiring Georgia U.S. Sen Saxby Chambliss. Eight candidates are in the race, including three sitting members of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Although the actual debate program will run from 6 to 8 p.m., WBCX coverage begins at 5:30 p.m. when WBCX station manager Jay Andrews interviews “Brenau’s congressman,” U.S. Rep. Doug Collins, the 9th Congressional District representative. Collins is not in the Senate race, but he is up for re-election to his own seat.
