Winter Olympics Anyone? Tennis Match Falls to Weather

Members of the Brenau University Golden Tiger tennis team pose for a photo in the severe winter weather that postponed today’s match against University of North Georgia.

Due to severe winter weather, all classes and activities on Brenau’s Gainesville, Norcross, Fairburn and Augusta campuses have been cancelled for Thursday, Feb. 13. One of the victims of the decision to shut down was Wednesday’s tennis match on the Gainesville campus. The courts probably would have been more suitable to, say, an Olympics sport, like speed skating or hockey.

Brenau Tennis Coach Andre Ferreria said he is not sure of a reschedule date for the match against University of North Georgia, but he said he hopes everyone will take this time to stay home and watch some Olympic action from Sochi, Russia, in honor of Brenau senior interior design student and tennis player Zalina Nazarova. The Russian-born transfer from the University of Texas is from Kalchik, about 450 miles from Sochi. Although tennis is not an Olympics sport, the photo, taken in Gainesville Wednesday, makes it look like Kalchik, far right, and her teammates are much closer to the winter Olympics venue.
