Part of the Gainesville-based university’s unique academic partnership with the High, the exhibition in the museum’s Greene Family Education Center includes digital prints, ceramics, oil and acrylic paintings, stoneware and mixed media.
There will be an opening reception on Thursday, Jan. 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the education center, which is located on the lower level of the Stent Family Wing. The exhibition and reception are open to the public with normal admission tickets to the museum. Tickets on Thursday evening from 4-8 p.m. are half price. A full price adult ticket to the museum is $19.50, but for the reception a ticket would be $9.75. Student tickets ($16.50) would be half price at $8.25.
“This is an extraordinary opportunity for our students to exhibit their work at an internationally known museum of art,” said Brenau’s Department of Interior Design Chair Lynn M. Jones.
Mary Beth Looney, Brenau’s Department Chair and Professor of Art and Design, shares the same enthusiasm about the exhibition. “This is the first time we [Brenau] are doing this, and we are very excited about it.”
Student works have been selected based on the fall juried design exhibition and award winning work from past Brenau Collaboratives and the MID/MFA Portfolio Exhibitions. Selected works were chosen by faculty and some were award winners from the juried exhibition in the fall. This is an interdisciplinary exhibition including works for Brenau students studying art and design, interior design, mass communication, theatre and liberal arts, but students studying other majors have works in the exhibit as well.
The High Museum of Art is sponsoring a DJ and light refreshments for the reception.
Brenau students who wish to attend may request a free ticket for admission. Contact Sally Conn at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 770-534-6240 for details. Students whose work will be exhibited gain free entrance and two free tickets for use by family and friends.
Brenau University will sponsor transportation to and from the event for the first 50 students who RSVP. The bus will leave Brenau at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday evening from front campus and return by 9:30 p.m. The ride is complimentary but you must RSVP to Sally Conn.
