An electrical fire destroyed a barn and an apartment suite Jan. 8 at the home of Jessi Shrout, an associate professor of biology and laboratory director at Brenau. Although no one was injured, Shrout’s mother-in-law resided in the apartment suite and not only lost her dwelling but all of her possessions, including pets. The fire destroyed the building in minutes. The mother-in-law will be able to stay with the family for the short term, “until we can figure out a more long-term solution,” Shrout says, but the loss included all the mother-in-law’s clothes, shoes, other personal items.
If you would like to help, Brenau CFO David Barnett authorized the staff development committee to collect money from individuals who want to contribute to help the family with the unexpected expenses. Staff Development Committee Chair Melissa Drury can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org or 770-718-5327 She will be collecting the donations.
