Halloween Highlights 2013

2013 Halloween Costume Contest
The winners of this year’s costume contest are, from left, Allison Carling, director of residence life at Brenau, Vern Smedly, the post office manager, and Christa Hazel, a teacher at the Child Development Center.

Brenau employees were certainly in the Halloween spirit during the faculty/staff costume contest on Oct. 31. Students entering Yonah Lobby at 12:30 p.m. were treated to the sight of Brenau staff dressed and ready to compete.

The Staff Development Committee sponsors the faculty/staff contest each year on Halloween day, and this year staff and students were able to vote for their picks in the following categories: “Most Creative”, “Best Hair and Makeup”, and “Most Spine-tingling”. And the contestants this year didn’t disappoint!

From Dorothy to Duck Dynasty, Pacmen to Princesses, the costumes were top of the line. WBCX emceed and provided beats while over 30 faculty and staff members paraded through Hopkins Dining Hall. The competition was fierce, but three costumes came out on top: “Most Creative” went to CDC teacher Christa Hazel for her “Steve Urkel” costume; Director of Residence Life Allison Carling won “Best Hair and Makeup” for her “Evil Minion” costume; and Post Office Manager Vern Smedley  won “Most Spine-Tingling” for his creepy depiction of “Sun Screen”. Each winner took home a $10 gift card and a trophy.

The fun atmosphere the faculty, staff and students brought Yonah on Halloween is just one of the many reasons why Brenau University is a great place to work and play.
