Based on her performance from April 8 -14, Zalina Nazarova was named National Women’s Tennis Player of the Week by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Nazarova, a junior and native of Nalchik, Russia, went unbeaten in No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles on the week and helped the Golden Tigers take down two ranked teams.
On April 9, Nazarova secured two of three points for Brenau in a 6-3 loss to No. 3 Auburn Montgomery by winning her singles and doubles matches. The next day, Nazarova helped Brenau take down then No. 20 Lee (Tenn.), 9-0. Nazarova was victorious in her singles match, 6-0, 6-1, and in doubles, 8-0. The winning ways continued for her against then No.24 SCAD Atlanta (Ga.), claiming victory in singles, 6-2, 6-0. In her doubles match, Nazarova came away with a 9-8 victory.
With the perfect week, Nazarova has not lost a match, singles or doubles, since March 24 when she lost in No. 4 singles and No. 1 doubles to NCAA Division I Alabama-Birmingham.
