The 2013 Sustainability Fair and Earth Day Celebration takes place at Centennial Park, near the intersection of Boulevard and Washington Street SE, on Brenau’s Gainesville campus Wednesday, April 10., from 12-4 p.m. It precedes the official date of Earth Day, April 22, because of final exams.
The event, organized by Dr. Rudi Kiefer, Brenau’s director of sustainability, features student groups and sustainability-related local organizations offering exhibits, demonstrations and hand-crafted items for purchase. As special guests, Students For Environmental Awareness from the University of North Georgia in Gainesville will be exhibiting along with Brenau’s EcoFriends.
A picnic luncheon is available until 1 p.m. for a small fee. At 4 p.m., everyone is invited to the SUB, above the Tea Room, for the Grand Finale Show. The program includes songs, a sketch performed by Brenau’s EcoFriends and Sustainability Singers and a recycling demonstration.
“The emphasis is on fun”, Kiefer said. “So many sustainability topics deal with pollution and pestilence. Now it’s time to end the semester on a happy note. Celebrating Earth Day with our students and friends from the area seems the best way to do it.”
Both these events are free and open to the public.
