If you happen to see unfamiliar faces on campus and they’re wearing a “WADE” badge, they’re here for The Women’s State High School Art and Design Competition, which offers more than $40,000 in Brenau scholarships and $1000 in cash prizes, Saturday, Feb. 16, through Monday, Feb. 18.
The women-only event features selected works in multiple mediums from students across the state, including DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinnett, Hall, Jackson and Rabun counties.
Entrants’ submissions to the competition will be on display in the Castelli Gallery of the John S. Burd Center for the Performing Arts Saturday, Feb. 16, from 5-7:30 p.m. and Sunday Feb. 17, from 1:30-4:30 p.m. A reception for the WADE show will be held Monday, Feb. 18, from 4-5 p.m. and an awards ceremony for scholarship winners will follow. You and your students are encouraged to attend.
In addition to competing for prizes, students who register for WADE will attend events hosted by Brenau faculty including a day of workshops, portfolio reviews and a lecture on art criticism. The WADE program is geared towards dynamic mediums and classic studio arts in addition to related areas such as interior design.
