National ‘Game of the Week’ for Brenau Soccer

The national Association of Intercollegiate Athletics billed this week’s match-up between the No. 1 Lady Flames of Lee University and the No. 17 Golden Tigers from Brenau as the women’s soccer “Game of the Week” because of its implications for post-season play, conference standings and national rankings. The Tigers’ final home game of the 2012 season starts at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Allen Creek Soccer Complex in Gainesville.  And it is the first game in which the Tigers have been ranked nationally.

Brenau’s lone senior, Taylor Bates from Locust Grove, Ga., plays her last home game at Brenau in Saturday’s historic match.

Lee, 13-1-1 overall, has not lost yet in conference play. With a win Saturday, the Tigers (12-3 overall and 8-2 in the conference) definitely improve their national standings and significantly tighten things in the Southern States Athletics Conference. The Brenau team currently is tied for third with No. 5-in-the-nation William Carey (13-3-1, 8-2). No. 4 Mobile (13-3-1, 9-1) is in second place in the SSAC.  Both those teams have beaten Brenau, but both have lost to Lee. Brenau’s third loss was to non-conference opponent Young Harris.

So, come out Saturday and support the Tigers. Click to go to the Tigers soccer website and get more information about Saturday’s game.
