Letter from Brenau President Ed Schrader

Office of the President

Dear Colleagues,

This year Brenau has slightly more than $8 million budgeted for financial aid. The vast majority of this aid is not supported by endowments or pledges: only current gifts and revenues support these scholarships! That translates into every dollar we give directly supports one of our students.

In addition to the direct support for our students, philanthropic foundations and external funding entities carefully examine the percentage of participation among the faculty and staff of an institution. They want to know how highly we value the mission and efforts of our school. If we don’t support Brenau, why should they? It is important for us to demonstrate our shared commitment to the mission and goals of our university.

Thanks to the generous support of faculty and professional staff like you, we achieved a participation rate of 57 percent in the 2011 Faculty & Staff Campus Campaign. However, we need to increase that percentage of participation.

Even if your budget is tight, a commitment of a small amount is very valuable to the school and our students but it also adds your name to the list of participants! We are very grateful to those who chose to support Brenau in this endeavor.

As a member of our faculty and professional staff, you are an ambassador of Brenau. When you speak well of our university, you promote student recruitment, alumni involvement and philanthropic giving.

We selected the theme of Why I Give for this year’s campaign because there are many reasons to support Brenau. The most important, of course, is the life-changing education we provide to our students. Your yearly commitment helps to make a Brenau education accessible and affordable.

You may choose to support the annual scholarship fund, a departmental scholarship, or make an unrestricted gift that will allow us to address a variety of needs on campus.

There are only 10 days remaining in the 2012 Why I Give Campus Campaign, which ends on October 20. I hope I can count on you to participate this year, whatever your reason for giving may be, because you are the core of this campaign.

Thank you for your dedication to our students. Your passion for Brenau is helping to cement our position as an innovative leader in higher education!
