Unfortunately we did not get into enough theaters before the end of the year to qualify for the Oscars, but there is a new video you may want to check out.
Here is the back story: if you followed Update before the holiday break last year, you will recall that a couple of music performances had to be relocated because the piano in Pearce Auditorium was not up to the accompaniment task – symptomatic of a larger need to replace some 30 pianos on campus in rehearsal halls and performance venues. The university earlier this week announced a $1.5 million fundraising campaign to replace all of those pianos with a variety of instruments manufactured by Steinway & Sons, Inc., of Long Island City, N.Y., a move that university officials say will help attract gifted music students from around the world and enhance musical performances to more professional standards. To support the campaign, which is separate from other ongoing fundraising initiatives at the university, the Office of Communications & Publications, working with the departments of Music and Mass Communications, produced some promotional materials, including the press release (a brochure cover depicted at right) and a video starring Ben Leaptrott, associate professor of music. You´ll want to stay with the video past the closing credits to hear all of Leaptrott´s performance.
If you have a smart phone, you can uses its QR code reader to scan the code at the right. Or you can see the video by navigating to www.brenau.edu/steinway.
