For the second time in three weeks, Brenau University has finished first in a mock mediation competition, winning the overall award at the Georgia State University Mock Mediation Tournament on Oct. 27. Gainesville State College finished second in a number of awards. The individual winners from Brenau University included Shantel Francis and Melissa Tavilla, who were named as first place mediators in the first round; e Jasmine Dickerson, who was named as a second place mediator in the second round of the two round tournaments. In the advocate/client portion of the competition; Shanelle Todd and Melanie Fain, who received first place in the first round; and Shantel Francis and Vanessa Holguin, who placed first in the second round. The Brenau team previously dominated the invitational regional tournament it held on the Gainesville campus earlier this month. Both Brenau and Gainesville State’s mediation teams will end their 2011 seasons by competing in Des Moines, Iowa, Nob. 11-12 at the International Academy of Dispute Resolution’s National Undergraduate Mediation Tournament at the Drake University Law school.
