Use crosswalks when crossing the street

Students, faculty, staff and visitors to campus are urged to use the designated crosswalks when crossing the city streets that surround the campus. It is extremely difficult for a motorist to see a pedestrian emerging between cars parked on the curb; likewise it is difficult for a pedestrian emerging between parked cars to be sure the roadway is clear before stepping into the path of an oncoming vehicle. Motorists MUST stop for pedestrians in the striped crosswalk; crossing streets between crosswalks creates a risk which must be assumed by the pedestrian. Pedestrians can also be ticketed by city police for “jay walking” when crossing a street outside a designated crosswalk.
