Tiger Dedication Kicks off Homecoming and Family Weekend, Oct. 4

135th logoGet ready for a full weekend of celebration to honor 135 years of tradition and tomorrow at Brenau University Oct. 4-6.

Homecoming and Family Weekend kicks off with a formal dedication and naming ceremony for the newest addition to the Gainesville campus, a one-ton bronze statue of Brenau’s Golden Tiger mascot Friday, Oct. 4 at 5 p.m. on the corner of N.E. Academy Street and Green Street. In addition to the ceremony, student athletic teams will be suited up, the drum line and Brenau cheerleaders will provide entertainment and the statue’s sculptor, Gregory Johnson, will be on hand to speak and answer questions. Birthday cake will also be served. 

After the naming ceremony, cross the street to the Northeast Georgia History Center at 6 p.m. for A History Professor Remembers: Reflections of a Sharecroppers Son, where Brenau professor, Dr. Jim Southerland, reads excerpts from his memoirs. Alumni, students, and community members may reminiscence along with him in an interactive format with light appetizers provided by the Office of Alumni & Events.

This is also the same weekend as the 11th Annual Mock Mediation Invitational Tournament.
